Pearl Jam - Jeremy

　　我們把時光拉回90年代初期，正好，那是 Pearl Jam 正要發光發熱的年代。在美國德州一個叫 Richardson 的地方，有個叫 Jeremy 男孩在英文課時，當著全班的面舉槍自盡，新聞登上了報紙一小塊版面，正好被 Pearl Jam 主唱 Eddie Vedder 看到，他當晚即寫下了這首歌 - Jeremy。

　　故事是這樣的，Jeremy Wade Delle，16歲的男生，最近剛從 Dallas 轉學到德州的 Richardson，他獨來獨往，也不常來上課。某天，故事發生的這一天，Jeremy 第二節才來上課，老師要求他到辦公室去拿 admittance slip (天曉得這是什麼，有人可以告訴我嗎，我真的不知道)，結果他拿了一把槍回到教室，在三十個同班同學面前，舉槍自盡。

　　Pearl Jam 的這首 Jeremy，是少數讓我聽了想哭的歌，而當時我甚至不知道這首歌背後的故事。＂Daddy didn't give attention, Oh, to the fact that mommy didn't care＂，每次聽到這，總覺得心裡酸酸的。

　　回想起來，每個人在求學階段，多多少少都會遇到歌詞裡頭寫的那種人，個性孤僻、怪裡怪氣，常被欺負，然後當他試著反擊時，往往又是弄巧成拙，我們姑且把這種人都叫 Jeremy 好了。歌裡頭不斷重複的一句歌詞＂Jeremy spoke in class today＂，試想當 Jeremy 今天在課堂上說了一句話，那多半不重要，沒有人會甩他。那如果今天 Jeremy 拿著一把槍走進教室，在大家面前往自己頭部開一槍？

　　一句話、一顆子彈對 Jeremy 或許都沒有差別，都只是種表達自己的方式，表達那種無以名狀的憤怒，而我們往往都只聽得懂後者... 我們聽得到那響亮槍聲，我們看到鮮血從 Jeremy 的頭部中不斷流出，我們聞得到那開槍過後的火藥味，那血腥味充滿整間教室，濃到彷彿都能嚐到味道似的；而我們卻聽不到 Jeremy 說的一句話。這首歌所說就是這樣吧。
